Description: Provides extensible dynamic table management objects for generic SNMP agent table manipulation.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DTABLE-MIB2?
This is a generic, apparently vendor-neutral utility MIB providing an extensible dynamic table management mechanism that lets an SNMP agent expose arbitrary discovered objects through a flexible table structure, rather than modeling a specific hardware technology. It exposes a discovery table keyed by IP address, port, OID, method, version, and object family/name, suggesting it is used as a generic registry or discovery mechanism for dynamically found network entities rather than fixed hardware sensors. Because it isn't tied to specific hardware counters, its relevance to hardware/software status monitoring is indirect -- it functions more as infrastructure for cataloging discoverable devices/objects (such as via a network discovery process) that other, more specific MIBs would then be used to monitor in detail. It does not show an explicit dependency on a named IETF standard beyond general SNMP table conventions. It appears associated with a Sun/SunSymon-style network management or discovery agent framework based on its object naming. Engineers can download the DTABLE-MIB2 file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DTABLE-MIB2. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- generic SNMP agent framework, likely Sun/SunSymon-associated network management tooling
Monitoring Examples
An administrator could poll discoveryTable/discoveryTableEntry to see discovered discoveryipaddr, discoveryport, discoveryOID, and discoveryobjectname values, effectively getting an inventory of dynamically discovered management objects/agents on the network, useful for auditing what devices or services have been detected by the discovery process versus what is expected.
What Can Be Monitored
- discovered device IP address and port
- discovered object OID
- discovery method and protocol version
- discovered object family/name
