Description: Juniper Networks conformance statements for Routing Information Protocol (RIP) management on Juniper E-series edge routers.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Juniper-RIP-CONF?
This MIB defines the SNMP agent capabilities statements for the Routing Information Protocol (RIP) component of the Juniper Networks E-series SNMP agent. It belongs to the routing protocol management area of Juniper's E-series edge router line, declaring which parts of the RIP MIB (typically the standard RIPv2 MIB) the agent implements. Its role is to inform monitoring systems which RIP routing status data -- such as neighbor state, route counts, and interface RIP configuration -- can be reliably polled, supporting protocol-health and routing-table monitoring use cases. It is explicitly a conformance layer over the standard RIP-2 MIB (RFC 1724) rather than a standalone object set. It is used in operational deployments where Juniper E-series routers run RIP for edge or legacy routing and need SNMP-based protocol health checks. Engineers can download the Juniper-RIP-CONF file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-RIP-CONF. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Juniper Networks E-series edge routers
Monitoring Examples
A network engineer verifying RIP monitoring support on an E-series router would check Juniper-RIP-CONF to see if the standard rip2IfConfTable and rip2PeerTable object groups are declared as supported by the agent. Since this module only carries AGENT-CAPABILITIES entries, actual RIP route counts and peer status come from the underlying RIP-2 MIB, with this module determining which of those are trustworthy to poll. A declared gap in compliance would explain why RIP peer state monitoring fails on certain Juniper software versions.
What Can Be Monitored
- RIP-2 MIB group conformance
- supported RIP peer/interface object groups
- agent compliance level for RIP monitoring
