Description: Provides managed objects for system status, resource utilization, and operational monitoring of Juniper Networks ERX-series broadband routers.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Juniper-ERX-System-MIB?
Juniper-ERX-System-MIB is a Juniper Networks-specific, deprecated MIB for the ERX-series broadband edge routers, covering chassis-level identification and boot/configuration-control behavior. It exposes hardware identification (chassis revision), software version and build date, and a set of boot-control objects governing configuration revert/backup behavior across reboots. Its monitoring role centers on hardware and software status of the router: juniERXSysSwVersion and juniERXSysSwBuildDate identify the running software image, juniERXSysChassisRev identifies the hardware revision, and objects like juniERXSysBootAutoRevertControl reveal whether the router will auto-revert to a backup configuration after an unstable boot, an important indicator of configuration instability. The module explicitly notes it is deprecated in favor of the newer Juniper-System-MIB and warns against combining objects from both MIBs in a single SET PDU. It was typically deployed on ERX Edge Router broadband aggregation platforms in service-provider access networks, though current deployments should use the successor MIB. Engineers can download the Juniper-ERX-System-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-ERX-System-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Juniper Networks ERX-series broadband edge routers
Monitoring Examples
A monitoring system polls juniERXSysSwVersion and juniERXSysChassisRev to inventory the exact software build and hardware revision on each ERX router in a POP, flagging routers not yet on a target release. Checking juniERXSysBootAutoRevertControl and juniERXSysBootAutoRevertCountTolerance shows whether a router will automatically fall back to its backup configuration after repeated reboots, and juniERXSysRevertTimeOfDay can reveal a recent unexpected revert suggesting configuration instability. Because the MIB is deprecated, these objects reflect legacy status/boot-control data rather than the actively maintained variant.
What Can Be Monitored
- running software version and build date
- chassis hardware revision
- boot/config auto-revert control status
- auto-revert tolerance thresholds
- last configuration revert time

| NTF juniERXSysAbatedMemUtil | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4874.2.2.17.0.6 | Reports system memory utilization has met the conditions of juniERXSysAbatedMemUtilThreshold. | ||
| I32 juniERXSysAbatedMemUtilThreshold | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4874.2.2.17.1.1.23 | Integer32 | read-write | The value of system memory utilization that is used to determine when to generate an abated memory utilization event notification to the management entity on this system. The value of this object must be less than the value of juniERXSysHighMemUtilThreshold. The abated memory utilization trap is sent once if the high memory threshold was reached, and memory utilization falls to the value of this object. |
| JUN juniERXSysAdminTimingSource | 1.3.6.1.4.1.4874.2.2.17.1.1.16 | JuniTimingSelector | read-write | The administrative timing source for the ERX system. The ERX periodically monitors the status of three timing sources, primary, secondary and tertiary. If the systems current timing source fails, the system will automatically downgrade to the next timing source. If the system is configured to automatically upgrade (juniERXSysTimingDisableAutoUpgrade is set to false(2)) the system will switch back to the higher timing source when it becomes available. A timing source failure can be detected by comparing the operational and admin timing sources. If they are not equal, the system has swapped timing sources because the administratively set value is in the error state. |
