Category: Device Management, Hardware and Environment, Vendor: Juniper

Description: Defines managed objects for Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) monitoring on Juniper Networks devices, including status, type, and operational state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is JUNIPER-FRU-MIB?

JUNIPER-FRU-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB for monitoring Field Replaceable Units -- the physical, hot-swappable hardware modules (such as line cards, power supplies, fan trays, and in this case OTN-related FRUs) installed in a Juniper chassis. It exposes a configuration table describing each FRU's identity and configured attributes, giving visibility into what hardware is installed and how it is configured. This is directly a hardware-health MIB: it is used to confirm FRUs are present, correctly configured, and by extension (via associated status objects) operational, making it central to detecting a failed or missing power supply, fan, or line card. It is a Juniper-specific enterprise extension, though it parallels the general concept found in ENTITY-MIB for physical component inventory. Typical deployment is any modular Juniper chassis (routers, switches with OTN/optical modules) where hardware component health needs to be tracked for maintenance and failure alerting. Engineers can download the JUNIPER-FRU-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in JUNIPER-FRU-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper router/switch chassis (modular, with OTN FRUs)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll jnxFruCfgTable/jnxFruCfgEntry via jnxFruCfg to check the configuration and presence of each field-replaceable unit, catching a scenario where an OTN FRU has been removed or its configuration no longer matches the expected state, which would prompt a physical inspection. Because the sample objects provided are limited to the configuration table, per-slot operational-status columns are not confirmed here but would typically accompany such a table in a full FRU MIB. This MIB is primarily useful for hardware-inventory and configuration verification of replaceable modules.

What Can Be Monitored

  • FRU presence/inventory
  • FRU configuration attributes
  • field-replaceable unit identity
  • hardware module configuration state
