Description: Provides managed objects for DNS proxy configuration and query statistics on Juniper Networks E-series broadband access routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Juniper-DNS-MIB?

Juniper-DNS-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB for the E-series broadband access router family that manages DNS proxy configuration, including configured DNS server lists and local domain name suffixes offered to subscribers. It exposes objects for enabling the DNS proxy feature, listing configured DNS servers (both IPv4-only and combined IPv4/IPv6 address forms), and local domain name lists with row status for each entry. Its monitoring role is primarily configuration/service status: an administrator verifies juniDnsEnable is set as expected and checks juniDnsServerListTable/juniDnsV4V6ServerListAddress entries to confirm the correct upstream DNS servers are configured and active, catching a misconfigured or removed DNS server that could break subscriber name resolution. It is a self-contained configuration MIB for Juniper's DNS proxy feature without strong cross-MIB dependencies. It is deployed on Juniper E-series broadband edge routers that proxy DNS resolution for downstream subscribers. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the Juniper-DNS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-DNS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper E-series broadband access routers

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check juniDnsEnable to confirm the DNS proxy feature is active, then walk juniDnsServerListTable/juniDnsServerListEntry (or the dual-stack juniDnsV4V6ServerListAddressType/juniDnsV4V6ServerListAddress) to verify the configured upstream DNS server addresses and their juniDnsServerListRowStatus. An unexpectedly missing or non-active row status on a server entry would explain subscriber DNS resolution failures. juniDnsLocalDomainNameListTable/juniDnsLocalDomainNameListEntry lets the admin confirm the local domain suffixes being appended to subscriber DNS queries are correctly provisioned.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DNS proxy enabled status
  • configured DNS server list
  • DNS server entry row status
  • IPv4/IPv6 DNS server addresses
  • local domain name suffix list
