juniDnsLocalDomainNameListNextIndex

Module: Juniper-DNS-MIB

OID (symbolic): Juniper-DNS-MIB::juniDnsLocalDomainNameListNextIndex

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.4874.2.2.47.1.3.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: JuniNextLocalDomainNameListIndex

Access: read-only

Description: Coordinate juniDnsLocalDomainNameListIndex value allocation for entries in juniDnsLocalDomainNameListTable.

A GET of this object returns the next available index value to be used to create an entry in the associated table; or zero, if no valid index value is available. This object also returns a value of zero when it is the lexicographic successor of a varbind presented in an SNMP GETNEXT or GETBULK request, for which circumstance it is assumed that index allocation is unintended.

Successive GETs will typically return different values, thus avoiding collisions among cooperating management clients seeking to create table entries simultaneously.

What is juniDnsLocalDomainNameListNextIndex?

This read-only value returns the next available index to use when creating a new entry in the local domain name list table, or zero if none is available, similarly returning zero during a GETNEXT/GETBULK lexicographic successor query, with successive GETs typically differing to avoid collisions between concurrent clients. An admin's management application reads this before creating a new local domain name entry, to safely obtain an unused index. For example, a script would GET this object to obtain a fresh index, then use it to create a new local domain name list entry without colliding with another concurrent configuration attempt.
