Description: Defines managed objects for Optical Transport Network (OTN) interface monitoring on Juniper Networks devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is JUNIPER-IFOTN-MIB?

JUNIPER-IFOTN-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB for managing and monitoring Optical Transport Network (OTN) interfaces, covering the ITU-T G.709 OTN hierarchy of Optical Channel (OCh), Optical Channel Transport Unit (OTUk), and Optical Channel Data Unit (ODUk) layers on Juniper optical transport equipment. It exposes configuration and status tables for OCh, OTUk, and ODUk framing layers as well as Tandem Connection Monitoring (TCM) configuration and test/delay-measurement data for ODUk sublayers. Its primary monitoring value is hardware and signal-integrity status of optical transport circuits, including alarm and test conditions on optical channels, transport units, and tandem connection monitoring segments used to detect signal degradation or faults in optical links. As an OTN-specific module it builds on general Juniper interface conventions and is used alongside standard interface MIBs like IF-MIB for ifIndex correlation. It is deployed in service-provider and carrier networks running Juniper routers/switches with OTN-capable optical transport interfaces, where JUNIPER-IFOTN-MIB SNMP monitoring tracks signal integrity across the OCh/OTUk/ODUk hierarchy.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in JUNIPER-IFOTN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper Networks optical transport routers
  • Juniper Networks OTN-capable line cards

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll jnxIfOtnOChCfgTable and jnxIfOtnOTUkCfgTable to check optical channel and OTU framing configuration per interface, and jnxIfOtnODUkCfgTable together with jnxIfOtnODUkTcmDMTable to review Tandem Connection Monitoring delay-measurement results for a given ODUk path. Anomalies in jnxIfOtnODUkTcmTestTable entries (such as failed test states) would reveal a degraded or faulty tandem connection segment on the optical transport path. The module also documents deprecated OCh2 tables and entries, indicating some legacy objects are retained only for backward compatibility.

What Can Be Monitored

  • OCh configuration status
  • OTUk framing configuration
  • ODUk configuration
  • tandem connection monitoring (TCM) configuration
  • ODUk TCM test results
  • ODUk TCM delay measurements
