Category: Cisco Devices, Network Interfaces, SNMP Framework

Description: Defines SNMP agent capability statements for DS1/T1 interface management MIB on Cisco router and gateway platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-DS1-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-DS1-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module describing which parts of the standard DS1-MIB (T1/E1 interface MIB) are supported by specific Cisco platforms, notably the Enhanced ATM Switch Service Module (AXSM-E), Enhanced Processor Switch Module (PXM1E) uplink, Voice Switch Service Module (VXSM), and MPSM Module. It contains no operational data of its own, only capability declarations tied to particular hardware/software releases (V3R00, V5R00). It has no role in monitoring uptime, temperature, CPU/memory, or interface counters directly; any such DS1/T1 line status data resides in the base DS1-MIB it references. Its defining dependency is on the IETF DS1-MIB standard, which it maps Cisco-specific implementation variations against. It is used at MIB-compilation time by NMS tooling to determine which DS1-MIB objects a given Cisco line/switch module actually implements, since compiling the CISCO-DS1-CAPABILITY MIB alongside DS1-MIB is how that tooling makes the determination.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DS1-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco AXSM-E/PXM1E ATM switch module
  • Cisco VXSM voice switch module
  • Cisco MPSM module

Monitoring Examples

This module contains only AGENT-CAPABILITIES statements (SUPPORTS/VARIATION clauses referencing DS1-MIB groups for specific module releases like ciscoDs1AxsmeCapabilityV3R00 and ciscoDs1CapabilityV5R00) and defines no pollable tables or scalars itself. There is therefore no realistic runtime monitoring scenario to describe from this module alone; actual DS1/T1 line alarm and performance data would be polled from DS1-MIB. It exists solely so management tools know which DS1-MIB features are implemented on AXSM-E, PXM1E, VXSM, and MPSM hardware.
