Organization: Juniper Networks, Inc.

Last Updated: 2007-01-08

Category: Textual Conventions and Registries, Vendor: Juniper

Description: Provides experimental management objects for testing and prototyping new features on Juniper Networks routing platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is JUNIPER-EXPERIMENT-MIB?

JUNIPER-EXPERIMENT-MIB is a Juniper Networks module that defines only the top-level JUNIPER-EXPERIMENT-MIB OID registry for experimental MIB work -- both IETF drafts awaiting permanent IANA assignment and Juniper's own pre-production, work-in-process MIBs. It carries no runtime objects of its own; it exists purely to provide a stable numeric root under which unstable, evolving object definitions can be placed during development. Consequently it has no role in hardware/software status monitoring directly, since any objects placed beneath it are explicitly unstable and subject to change or removal. It is a dependency-only module: numerous provisional Juniper feature MIBs register beneath this OID subtree before graduating to a permanent location. It is relevant only internally during JUNOS feature development and testing on Juniper routing and switching platforms, not for production device monitoring.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in JUNIPER-EXPERIMENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper Networks routing/switching platforms (JUNOS)

Monitoring Examples

This module registers only the top-level experimental OID subtree under which various draft/prototype Juniper MIBs place their objects; it defines no monitorable objects of its own.
