What Is JUNIPER-JS-SMI?

JUNIPER-JS-SMI is a vendor-specific Juniper Networks module defining the enterprise OID subtree for the SRX and J-series security platform MIB family, covering security-focused functional areas like firewall policies, IPsec VPN, authentication, and certificates. As a Structure of Management Information (SMI) module it primarily assigns OID branches (jnxJsSecurity, jnxJsIf, jnxJsAuth, jnxJsCertificates, jnxJsPolicies, jnxJsIPSecVpn) rather than exposing runtime instances itself, so hardware/software status data (interface state, VPN tunnel status, policy hit counts) lives in the sibling Juniper JS functional MIBs registered beneath these roots. Those downstream modules are what an operator would actually poll for things like IPsec VPN tunnel up/down status, firewall policy counters, or certificate expiration — a JUNIPER-JS-SMI reference is mainly useful for confirming which OID branch a given SRX security feature's functional MIB is registered under. It is a foundational dependency for the whole Juniper JS MIB family, similar in role to other enterprise SMI modules. It applies specifically to Juniper SRX and J-series security gateway/firewall appliances.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in JUNIPER-JS-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper SRX/J-series security gateway (any generation, JS security MIB family root)

Monitoring Examples

JUNIPER-JS-SMI itself defines only OID branches such as jnxJsSecurity, jnxJsAuth, jnxJsCertificates, jnxJsPolicies, and jnxJsIPSecVpn, with no runtime tables or scalars of its own. Actual monitoring — for example IPsec VPN tunnel state or firewall policy hit counts — would be found in the functional Juniper MIB modules registered under jnxJsIPSecVpn or jnxJsPolicies. There is no direct polling scenario for this SMI module in isolation.
