Category: Vendor: Intel

Description: Intel value-added services (VAS) MIB providing SNMP objects for monitoring special application or service modules on Intel platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is INTEL-VAS-MIB?

INTEL-VAS-MIB is an Intel enterprise MIB for managing Value-Added Services (VAS) -- licensable software feature modules -- on Intel-based platforms. It exposes a configuration table describing each licensable feature's status, license key, license name, demo license key, licensed user name, and date of issue, along with an object to erase a license. Rather than hardware sensors, this MIB is squarely about software feature/licensing status: an administrator uses it to confirm whether a value-added feature module is actively licensed and running, and to track demo/trial licenses that may be nearing expiration, which is a form of software-status monitoring distinct from typical performance counters. It is a private Intel enterprise MIB, likely used alongside other Intel platform/adapter management MIBs rather than any IETF standard. It is deployed on Intel-based network or server platforms where optional software features require license activation and tracking. Engineers can download the INTEL-VAS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in INTEL-VAS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Intel network/server platforms with licensable value-added service modules

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll vasConfigTable/vasConfigEntry rows -- vasConfigIndex, vasConfigStatus, vasConfigLicenseKey, vasConfigNameOfLicense, vasConfigDemoLicenseKey, and vasConfigDateOfIssue -- to verify a licensed feature module is active and to see when a demo license was issued. A vasConfigStatus showing the license as inactive or expired, or a demo license nearing its issue-plus-trial-period boundary, would reveal that a value-added feature is about to stop working.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VAS feature license status
  • license key and license name
  • demo license key and date of issue
  • licensed user name
  • license erase/reset capability
