Description: Incognito Software MIB for the Express IP Commander DHCP/DNS/IPAM management system providing service status and statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is INCOGNITO-EXPR-IPCOMMANDER-MIB?

INCOGNITO-EXPR-IPCOMMANDER-MIB is a vendor MIB from Incognito Software, under the incognitoExpr enterprise branch, for the Express IP Commander DHCP/DNS/IPAM management platform, layering vendor-specific service and failover monitoring on top of a draft DHCP server MIB (draftServerMIB). It organizes objects into failover statistics (ipcFailoverStatistics with summary, protocol, timer, error, resynch, and traffic sub-branches -- e.g. ipcFailStatCountTimeDown, ipcFailStatTotalResynch, ipcFailStatCRC1Errors/CRC2Errors, ipcFailStatVersionMismatchErrors), DHCP packet statistics (ipcDHCPStatistics), and general service status/information (ipcServiceStatistics, ipcServiceInformation), alongside notifications for LDAP connectivity changes and DoS-detection trips. This is useful for tracking DHCP failover-pair health -- how much time a pair has spent down, how often resynchronization occurred, and whether CRC or version-mismatch errors are corrupting the failover protocol exchange -- which directly affects DHCP lease availability. It depends on the base draft DHCP server MIB it augments. It is deployed on servers running Incognito's Express IP Commander software in service-provider or enterprise IPAM environments, and the INCOGNITO-EXPR-IPCOMMANDER-MIB MIB is what administrators load into their MIB browser to track this failover and service health data.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in INCOGNITO-EXPR-IPCOMMANDER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Incognito Software Express IP Commander DHCP/DNS/IPAM servers

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls ipcFailStatCountTimeDown and ipcFailStatLongestTimeDown to gauge how often and how long a DHCP failover pair has been down, and checks ipcFailStatCRC1Errors/CRC2Errors for protocol corruption; a rising ipcFailStatVersionMismatchErrors counter would indicate the failover peers are running incompatible IP Commander software versions.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DHCP failover pair up/down time statistics
  • failover resynchronization counts
  • failover protocol error counters (CRC, version/platform mismatch, access denied)
  • DHCP packet response statistics
  • service status/information objects
  • LDAP and DoS-detection notifications

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using ipcFailStatSendErrors OID:

Select an Incognito Software Express IP Commander DHCP/DNS/IPAM server as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ipcFailStatSendErrors into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The number of errors that have occurred sending failover messages since the last time this counter was reset. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
