Description: INADS-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is INADS-MIB?

INADS-MIB is Avaya's private MIB for the INADS (Initialization and Administration System) alarm reporting interface used by Avaya communication servers (e.g., Communication Manager/Definity PBX systems) to relay system alarms via SNMP. It exposes alarm-oriented data including alarm message text, alarm acknowledgment state, alarm timestamp, and a services object, along with standard notification/conformance groupings. It is explicitly a fault-monitoring MIB whose entire purpose is surfacing hardware and software fault conditions on the underlying telephony system, letting a monitoring station receive and acknowledge active alarms as they occur rather than exposing continuous performance counters. There is no explicit dependency on other MIBs beyond standard SNMPv2-CONF notification conventions for compliances/groups. It is typically deployed on Avaya PBX/communication server platforms where INADS alarm traps are forwarded to a central network management system for real-time fault escalation. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the INADS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in INADS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Avaya communication servers / PBX systems (e.g., Communication Manager, Definity)

Monitoring Examples

A monitoring system receiving an SNMP trap tied to inadssnmpAlarmMessage would display the alarm text describing the fault (e.g., a hardware card failure on the PBX), while inadssnmpAlarmTime records when it occurred. Operators then use inadssnmpAlarmAck to acknowledge the alarm within the monitoring tool, clearing it from an active-alarms view. The inadssnmpNotifications branch defines the trap PDUs the device sends to report these conditions.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active alarm message text
  • alarm acknowledgment status
  • alarm timestamp
  • system services status
