Category: Device Management, Domain: WAN

Description: MIB for Intelligent Modem/Device Manager (IMDM) providing dial-up modem bank configuration and call status monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IMDM-MIB?

IMDM-MIB is a vendor private MIB (associated with the "usr"/"nas" object identifiers, consistent with US Robotics/3Com Total Control-style Network Access Server equipment) for an Intelligent Modem/Device Manager, managing banks of dial-up/ISDN modem or terminal adapter cards used for remote access. It exposes per-call configuration and status objects organized in a call-control table covering rate adaptation (V.110), fixed and negotiated network rates, link delay, analog/digital override settings, asynchronous PPP, and X.75/Star protocol modes. For monitoring purposes it is used to check the software/protocol state of each modem/channel's active call, confirming negotiated connection rate and protocol mode per channel, which reveals call setup failures or rate mismatches on a dial-up access bank, functioning as a call/session status indicator rather than exposing classic hardware sensors. It sits within a vendor-specific enterprise MIB tree rather than depending on standard IETF MIBs. It is typically deployed on remote access server (RAS) chassis providing large banks of dial-up modem or ISDN channels for dial-in internet/remote access services. Engineers can download the IMDM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IMDM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Remote Access Server (RAS) / dial-up modem bank chassis (US Robotics/3Com Total Control-style NAS)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polling imdmCcTable/imdmCcEntry by imdmCcIndex (per channel/call) can inspect imdmCcNetworkRate and imdmCcFixedNtwkRate to confirm a call negotiated at its expected rate, or imdmCcRateAdapV110 to check V.110 rate adaptation mode for a given connection. imdmCcBcLinkDly reveals abnormal link delay on a channel, and imdmCcX75/imdmCcStarV2/imdmCcStarU1 flags indicate which signaling protocol variant is in use for that call, helping diagnose interoperability issues between the RAS and dial-in clients.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-channel call/network rate
  • V.110 rate adaptation status
  • link delay per channel
  • analog/digital override mode
  • async PPP mode
  • X.75/Star signaling protocol mode
