What Is IEEE8021-EVBB-MIB?

IEEE8021-EVBB-MIB is a vendor-neutral IEEE 802.1 standards MIB for Edge Virtual Bridging (802.1Qbh/EVB), used to manage port profiles and the coordination between hypervisor virtual switches and upstream physical bridges in virtualized data center networks. It exposes system-level EVB capability objects such as ieee8021BridgeEvbSysNumExternalPorts and LLDP-related EVB negotiation settings, plus VSI (Virtual Station Interface) database tables (ieee8021BridgeEvbVSIDBTable and its MAC-address counterpart) that track virtual machine network interface profiles as they migrate between physical ports. Its monitoring purpose is software/configuration-state visibility for virtualization networking rather than physical hardware sensors: it lets an operator confirm how many VSIs are supported and currently registered, verify LLDP-EVB negotiation mode and defaults are consistent between hypervisor and bridge, and track which VSI/MAC bindings are active on which S-component, useful for diagnosing VM network connectivity issues after a live migration. ieee8021BridgeEvbSysNumSComps indicates how many bridge port extension components are present, relevant to switch capacity planning for virtualized workloads. Monitoring Examples

An admin would check ieee8021BridgeEvbSysEvbLldpEnables and ieee8021BridgeEvbSysEvbLldpDfltMode to confirm LLDP-based EVB negotiation is enabled and using the expected default mode between the bridge and attached hypervisors, and ieee8021BridgeEvbSysEvbLldpNumVsisSup to see the maximum VSIs the system supports. Polling ieee8021BridgeEvbVSIDBTable/ieee8021BridgeEvbVSIDBEntry and its MAC-address counterpart (ieee8021BridgeEvbVSIDBMacTable/ieee8021BridgeEvbVSIDBMacEntry) would reveal which virtual machine VSI/MAC bindings are currently registered on the bridge, and a VM's VSI missing from this table after a live migration would indicate its network profile failed to re-associate with the new physical port. ieee8021BridgeEvbSysNumExternalPorts and ieee8021BridgeEvbSysNumSComps provide capacity context for how many external ports and bridge port extension components are available.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using ieee8021BridgeEvbVDPCommandsSucceeded OID:

Select a device implementing IEEE8021-EVBB-MIB as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ieee8021BridgeEvbVDPCommandsSucceeded into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This object specifies the VDP number of successful commands since creation. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
