Category: Domain: WAN, Vendor: IBM

Description: IBM MIB for remote LAN access management on IBM IROC devices providing dial-in user session information.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IBMIROCRLAN-MIB?

IBMIROCRLAN-MIB is an IBM enterprise MIB for remote LAN (RLAN) dial-in access on IBM IROC network devices, covering remote-access/dial networking. It exposes tables of currently active dial-in user sessions, both generic and IP-specific, describing each connected user's identity, connection time, and traffic counters. Its monitoring focus is service/session status rather than hardware: administrators can see how many remote users are currently connected, how long they've been connected, and how much traffic (packets/octets in and out) each session has generated, which helps track remote-access capacity usage and spot abnormal session behavior. It is IBM-specific and depends on IBM's IROC routing/remote-access MIB framework rather than IETF standards. It is deployed on IBM IROC remote-access routers/servers providing dial-in LAN connectivity to remote users. Engineers can download the IBMIROCRLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBMIROCRLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM IROC remote-access router/server

Monitoring Examples

The rlanActiveUserTable/Entry lists each connected session's rlanActiveUserName, rlanActiveUserConnected time, and rlanActiveUserTimeRemaining, alongside traffic counters rlanActiveUserInPkts/OutPkts and InOctets/OutOctets. An administrator would poll this table to see the current number of active dial-in users and detect a session whose rlanActiveUserTimeRemaining is nearly exhausted or whose traffic counters have stalled, indicating an unresponsive or about-to-be-dropped connection; the parallel rlanActiveIpUserTable/Entry provides the same visibility for IP-based dial-in sessions.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active dial-in user count
  • per-session connection duration
  • time remaining on session
  • inbound/outbound packet and octet counts
  • active IP user sessions
