Category: Domain: Server/Host Monitoring, Vendor: IBM

Description: IBM MIB for the NetVista U (NetU) workstation providing hardware inventory and management objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IBMNETU-MIB?

IBMNETU-MIB is an IBM enterprise MIB for the NetVista U ("NetU") thin-client workstation, providing hardware inventory and management objects for the device's internal expansion hardware. It exposes tables describing installed PCI adapters and graphics adapters, including slot number, adapter type, operational status, and (for graphics) port number and associated ifIndex. Its monitoring focus is hardware status: an administrator can confirm which PCI and graphics adapters are physically present in a NetVista U unit and check their operational status, catching a failed or missing adapter card. It is a self-contained vendor hardware-inventory MIB with a link to standard IF-MIB via the graphics adapter's ifIndex reference. It is deployed on IBM NetVista U desktop/thin-client workstations in enterprise desktop management environments. Engineers can download the IBMNETU-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBMNETU-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM NetVista U workstation/thin client

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ibmnetuPCIAdapTable / ibmnetuPCIAdapEntry, keyed by ibmnetuPCIAdapSlotNum, to read ibmnetuPCIAdapType and ibmnetuPCIAdapOperStatus, confirming an expected adapter card in a given slot is operating normally. Checking ibmnetuGraphicTable's ibmnetuGraphicSlotNum, ibmnetuGraphicPortNum, and ibmnetuGraphicifIndex ties a graphics adapter's port to its corresponding network/interface index for cross-referencing with IF-MIB. An ibmnetuPCIAdapOperStatus reporting a fault state for a slot that previously reported normal would indicate a failed PCI adapter card in that workstation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PCI adapter slot occupancy
  • PCI adapter type
  • PCI adapter operational status
  • graphics adapter slot/port
  • graphics adapter interface index
