Category: Domain: Server Hardware, Vendor: IBM

Description: IBM MIB for the IBM Director System Agent providing server hardware inventory, health, and fault management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IBM-SYSTEM-AGENT-MIB?

IBM-SYSTEM-AGENT-MIB is a vendor MIB published for the IBM Director System Agent, part of IBM's server systems-management stack (predecessor/companion to IBM Director and related hardware management agents). It exposes configuration and endpoint-discovery data for the management agent itself, covering how the agent's embedded HTTP management interface is configured and how its management hardware IP endpoints are addressed. The objects here are primarily used to monitor and validate the software/management-plane health of the server's system agent -- confirming the HTTP configuration port is reachable and that management IP endpoints (IPv4 address, subnet mask, address origin) are correctly assigned -- rather than deep hardware sensor data, which is typically carried in companion IBM Director MIBs. It is designed to work alongside other IBM Director/System Agent MIBs that carry the fuller hardware inventory, health, and fault data referenced by its short description. Typical deployment is on IBM xSeries/System x rack and blade servers managed centrally through IBM Director. Engineers can download the IBM-SYSTEM-AGENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBM-SYSTEM-AGENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM System x / xSeries servers
  • IBM Director-managed server hardware

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ibmSystemHTTPConfigurationTable (via ibmSystemHTTPConfigurationEntry, keyed by ibmSystemHTTPConfigurationKeyIndex) to confirm the ibmSystemHTTPConfigurationPort the agent's web management interface is listening on, which reveals whether the management HTTP service has been reconfigured or disabled unexpectedly. Separately, ibmSystemMgmtHwIPEndPointTable exposes ibmSystemMgmtHwIPEndPointIPv4Address, ibmSystemMgmtHwIPEndPointSubnetMask, and ibmSystemMgmtHwIPEndPointAddressOrigin, letting an admin verify that the server's out-of-band management hardware endpoint retained its expected static or DHCP-assigned address after a reboot or firmware update. A mismatch here would indicate a management network misconfiguration that could cut off remote hardware monitoring.

What Can Be Monitored

  • management HTTP interface port
  • management hardware IP endpoint address
  • IP address origin (static/DHCP)
  • subnet mask of management endpoint
