Description: IBM Director MIB for agent-side hardware inventory and status monitoring deployed on managed IBM server systems.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IBM-Director-Agent-MIB?

IBM-Director-Agent-MIB is an IBM Corporation vendor-specific MIB (under the IBM Director product subtree, dmiMibs) that exposes DMI (Desktop Management Interface)-style hardware inventory and alerting data from the IBM Director systems-management agent running on managed IBM server systems. It provides component identity in componentidTable (a1Manufacturer, a1Product, a1Version, a1SerialNumber), structured alert records in directorAlertTable (a2AlertText, a2Severity on a 0-7 scale, a2AlertType, a2ApplicationId, a2AlertTimeAndDate, a2AlertSender/AlertSystemName), live monitored-attribute values in directorMonitorAttributesTable (a3AttributeName, a3CurrentValueInteger/Thousandths/String, a3ValueUnits, a3RecordingEnabled), and grouped attribute values in directorAttributeGroupsTable. This makes it useful for pulling hardware component inventory and current alert/attribute state from an IBM server without needing IBM Director's own console, e.g., for integration into a third-party NMS. It depends on the IBM Director agent process running on the managed system and its DMI provider layer, and administrators can download the IBM-Director-Agent-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBM-Director-Agent-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM server systems managed by IBM Director

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls directorAlertTable for entries with a2Severity at the highest level and reads a2AlertText and a2AlertSystemName to identify which managed IBM server raised a critical hardware alert; a growing number of entries with the same a2ApplicationId and rising severity would indicate a recurring hardware fault rather than a one-off event.

What Can Be Monitored

  • hardware component identity (manufacturer, product, serial, version)
  • director alert records and severity levels
  • live monitored attribute values
  • attribute group current values
  • recording-enabled status per monitored attribute
