Description: IBM MIB for the Remote Execution Client (REC) providing management of remote command execution services on IBM systems.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is IBM-REC-MIB?
IBM-REC-MIB is an IBM proprietary MIB for the Remote Execution Client (REC), a service that provides remote command-execution management on IBM systems, using a 'Structure of Register Information' object model. It exposes registration and command-status objects that let a management station track command execution requests issued to an IBM device and their outcomes. This is a software/service-status MIB rather than a hardware-sensor MIB, useful for confirming that remote command jobs dispatched to a device have completed successfully, and for detecting stuck, failed, or unauthorized remote execution attempts. It relies on IBM's private enterprise MIB tree rather than an external dependency. It is typically deployed on IBM systems management environments where centralized tools issue remote commands or scripts to fleets of IBM servers or network devices. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the IBM-REC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBM-REC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- IBM servers/systems with Remote Execution Client
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll REC status/register objects to check whether a remotely dispatched command job on an IBM device is pending, running, completed, or failed. A job stuck in a pending or running state well past its expected duration would indicate the remote execution client is unresponsive or the target process has hung. Repeated failed-status entries across multiple devices would point to a broader issue with the remote execution service or credentials used to authorize commands.
What Can Be Monitored
- remote command job status
- command execution success/failure
- pending/running job queue
