Description: Sun Microsystems MIB for reading kernel-level performance and resource statistics via the Sun Management Center monitoring framework.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is KERNEL-READER-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB?

KERNEL-READER-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB is a Sun Microsystems MIB, part of the Sun Management Center (SunMC) monitoring framework, that reads kernel-level operating system statistics from Solaris hosts including CPUs, disk drives, streams buffers, and virtual memory. It exposes data on active user sessions, system load, uptime, and detailed per-disk information. It is explicitly a hardware/software status monitoring MIB: krSystemLoadAvg1min/5min/15min and krSystemUpTime directly report CPU load and system uptime, while krDiskDetailTable exposes per-disk identity and presumably utilization data, and the stated purpose per its description covers CPU usage, disk and network I/O, and paging/swapping rates. It is a self-contained Sun enterprise MIB (under the sun/prod/sunsymon subtree) with no indicated dependency on external standard MIBs. It is deployed on Solaris servers managed through Sun Management Center for OS-level performance and capacity monitoring. Engineers can download the KERNEL-READER-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in KERNEL-READER-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Sun/Solaris servers managed via Sun Management Center

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll krSystemLoadAvg1min, krSystemLoadAvg5min, and krSystemLoadAvg15min together to detect sustained high CPU load trending upward across the three windows, indicating a developing performance problem. krSystemUpTime would be checked after an alert to confirm whether a reboot occurred. krDiskDetailTable entries, indexed via krDDDiskName and labeled with krDiskAliasName, would be polled to track individual disk health or utilization, while krTotNumOfUsers and krTotNumOfSessions would be watched to correlate load spikes with active user session counts.

What Can Be Monitored

  • system load average (1/5/15 min)
  • system uptime
  • total users and sessions
  • console/primary user
  • per-disk detail and identity
  • CPU, disk I/O, and paging/swapping activity
