Category: Vendor: IBM

Description: IBM MIB for the Communications Protocol Support subsystem providing protocol stack status and configuration objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IBM-CPS-MIB?

IBM-CPS-MIB is an IBM-proprietary SNMP module for IBM's Communications Protocol Support (CPS) subsystem, a legacy component providing protocol-stack services on IBM platforms. Based on the objects present, it is a very small module whose primary configurable element is a system-wide trap-enable switch (cpsSystemSendTrap) controlling whether the subsystem emits SNMP traps for its events. Operators use it mainly for fault/notification monitoring - enabling cpsSystemSendTrap so that CPS-related events (protocol stack faults or state changes) are forwarded as SNMP traps to the NMS, rather than for rich performance or configuration polling since little else is exposed here. It sits under IBM's general enterprise numbering (ibm/ibmProd) and depends on IBM's broader product MIB tree for context; it does not itself define extensive protocol-stack detail. It would be encountered on legacy IBM systems (e.g., AIX hosts or IBM communications servers) still running the CPS subsystem for older multiprotocol connectivity. Engineers can download the IBM-CPS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBM-CPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • legacy IBM host/communications server running Communications Protocol Support (CPS)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would set cpsSystemSendTrap to enable trap generation for the CPS subsystem, then configure a trap receiver to catch and log any resulting notifications; given the minimal object set available, there is no additional polled performance or configuration data to describe beyond this trap-control switch and the enterprise identity objects (ibm, ibmProd, cps).

What Can Be Monitored

  • CPS trap notification enable/disable state
