What Is IBM-BCM-MIB?

IBM-BCM-MIB is an IBM-proprietary SNMP module for the Broadcast Manager (BCM) function within IBM's ATM LAN Emulation networking stack, extending the standard busConfTable used by the ATM LANE Broadcast-and-Unknown-Server (BUS) component. It exposes configuration objects for broadcast-server behavior (such as route-cache enablement) and a static-targets table mapping configured targets to their ATM and MAC addresses and protocol type, with row-creation/status control. Operators use it to monitor and manage the software configuration of the LAN Emulation broadcast/unknown-frame-forwarding function - confirming static target entries (ATM address, MAC address, protocol, row status) are correctly provisioned and that route caching is enabled as expected, which affects how unresolved/broadcast traffic is handled on the emulated LAN. It explicitly depends on and extends the standard ATM LANE busConfTable, so it cannot be understood or deployed without that base MIB. It is typically deployed on IBM ATM networking equipment (e.g., IBM 8285/2216-class ATM switches or routers) participating in classical LAN Emulation environments, an older network-virtualization technology largely superseded in modern deployments. Engineers can download the IBM-BCM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

An operator would check bcmRouteCacheEnabled in bcmConfTable/bcmConfEntry to confirm broadcast route caching is turned on for a given BUS instance, and would inspect bcmStaticTargetsTable entries (bcmStaticTargetsAtmAddress, bcmStaticTargetsMacAddress, bcmStaticTargetsProtocol, bcmStaticTargetsRowStatus) to verify a specific static target mapping is correctly provisioned and active rather than left in a not-ready row state.
