Description: Huawei MIB for RAN APS (Radio Access Network Automatic Protection Switching), used to manage protection of microwave backhaul links.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-RANAPS-MIB?

HUAWEI-RANAPS-MIB is a Huawei enterprise MIB for Automatic Protection Switching (APS) on Radio Access Network microwave backhaul links, a telecom/mobile-backhaul technology area. It exposes APS configuration objects describing protection group setup (working/protection link pairs) as well as APS alarm objects that report switching events and link-failure conditions. Its principal monitoring value is fault detection: it lets an operator watch for protection-switch events and alarms that indicate a working microwave link has failed and traffic has failed over to the protection link, which is a direct hardware/link health signal for backhaul availability. It is Huawei-specific and is generally used together with other Huawei transmission and microwave MIBs rather than IETF standards, since APS in this context is a proprietary/ITU-aligned protection mechanism. It is deployed on Huawei microwave transmission equipment used to backhaul mobile radio access network traffic, and field engineers typically open a HUAWEI-RANAPS-MIB MIB Browser session to review the protection-group and alarm objects during commissioning.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-RANAPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei microwave transmission equipment
  • RAN backhaul radio link device

Monitoring Examples

Given the module description mentions APS configuration and alarm objects, a realistic table would be an APS protection-group table keyed by group ID with fields for working/protection channel state and a paired alarm/trap object fired on switchover. An administrator would monitor the protection-group status object to detect an unplanned switch from the working to the protection microwave link, which reveals a backhaul link degradation or failure needing field attention.

What Can Be Monitored

  • APS protection group status
  • working/protection link state
  • APS switchover alarms
  • link failure events
