Description: Huawei PIM BSR (Bootstrap Router) MIB for managing PIM-SM bootstrap router elections and RP information distribution.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-PIM-BSR-MIB?

HUAWEI-PIM-BSR-MIB is a Huawei enterprise MIB for managing the PIM (Protocol Independent Multicast) Bootstrap Router (BSR) mechanism, used within PIM Sparse Mode to elect a bootstrap router and distribute rendezvous-point (RP) mapping information across a multicast domain. It belongs to the IP multicast routing technology area and exposes configuration and operational data for candidate-BSR and candidate-RP definitions, the currently elected BSR, and the resulting RP-to-group mapping. It supports monitoring of software/routing status by revealing whether BSR election has completed correctly, which router currently holds the BSR role, and whether RP mappings are propagating properly — a failure here can silently break multicast forwarding while unicast routing stays healthy. It is one module of Huawei's broader IP-multicast MIB tree covering multicast routing, data forwarding, and reception, and assumes standard PIM-SM protocol semantics. It is typically deployed on Huawei routers/switches participating in a PIM-SM multicast domain, and administrators can download the HUAWEI-PIM-BSR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-PIM-BSR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei router/switch running PIM-SM multicast routing

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were supplied for this module, so exact object names cannot be confirmed; consistent with its description an operator would poll the candidate-BSR and elected-BSR objects to confirm the expected router won the bootstrap election, and check the RP mapping table to verify multicast groups are mapped to the correct rendezvous point, since an unexpected BSR change or stale RP mapping table would indicate a multicast control-plane fault.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PIM BSR election state / current elected BSR
  • candidate-BSR and candidate-RP configuration
  • RP-to-multicast-group mapping table
  • multicast domain BSR status
