Description: Huawei NTP trap MIB defining SNMP notifications for NTP synchronization loss, authentication failures, and peer events.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-NTP-TRAP-MIB?

HUAWEI-NTP-TRAP-MIB is a Huawei vendor MIB (under huaweiUtility) that defines just two notifications for monitoring NTP time-synchronization health on Huawei network equipment. hwNtpStateChangeTrap fires whenever the local NTP clock transitions between synchronized and unsynchronized, covering causes like a deleted or unreachable peer, authentication failure, a peer clock that's itself unsynchronized, stratum mismatches, or loss of the synchronization source - with hwNtpState, hwNtpSource and hwNtpSourceVpnName bound to the trap to show the current state and reference clock (including which VPN instance it's reached through). hwNtpSysPeerChangeTrap fires when the device switches its selected NTP system peer without a state change, carrying both hwNtpOldSource/hwNtpOldSourceVpnName and the new hwNtpSource/hwNtpSourceVpnName so an operator can see exactly which reference clock was swapped in. Because it only defines notifications (no polled status table), this MIB is consumed as trap/event data rather than through periodic polling, deployed on Huawei routers and switches that rely on NTP for clock discipline. Administrators can download the HUAWEI-NTP-TRAP-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser when they need to alert on NTP sync loss.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-NTP-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei routers and switches (Huawei enterprise MIB line)

Monitoring Examples

An operator alerts on hwNtpStateChangeTrap and inspects the bound hwNtpSource/hwNtpSourceVpnName; a state-change trap indicating loss of synchronization followed shortly by an hwNtpSysPeerChangeTrap to a different source address suggests the device's primary NTP peer became unreachable and it failed over to a secondary reference clock.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NTP synchronization state (synchronized/unsynchronized)
  • current and previous NTP reference source address
  • VPN instance associated with the NTP peer
  • NTP system peer change events
