Description: Huawei L3VPN extension MIB providing additional objects for MPLS L3VPN management beyond the standard draft-ietf-ppvpn-mpls-vpn-mib.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-L3VPN-EXT-MIB?

HUAWEI-L3VPN-EXT-MIB is a Huawei proprietary extension to the standard MPLS Layer 3 VPN MIB, used on Huawei carrier-grade routers and switches that provide L3VPN services. It exposes traffic statistics counters for individual VPN instances beyond what the base VPN MIB tracks, giving operators finer-grained per-VRF traffic accounting. Rather than hardware health, this MIB is primarily a software/service-status MIB, letting an administrator confirm that a VPN instance is passing traffic as expected and detect abnormal drops or spikes that suggest a misconfiguration or routing failure. It explicitly extends and depends on the standard draft-ietf-ppvpn-mpls-vpn-mib (MPLS/VPN MIB) for the base object definitions it augments. It is typically deployed on Huawei provider-edge (PE) routers in MPLS backbone networks where multiple customer L3VPNs are provisioned. Engineers can download the HUAWEI-L3VPN-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-L3VPN-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei carrier routers and switches (PE devices)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll the VPN traffic statistic objects in this MIB keyed by VPN instance name to compare inbound and outbound packet/byte counters across VRFs. A sudden drop to zero on one VPN instance while others remain steady would indicate a broken PE-CE link or route leaking issue for that customer's VPN. Because the MIB augments the standard mplsVpn tables, the instance identifiers correspond to VPN entries already registered in draft-ietf-ppvpn-mpls-vpn-mib.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-VPN traffic byte/packet counters
  • VPN instance statistics
  • L3VPN traffic trends
