Category: Cisco Devices, SNMP Framework, VPN and Security

Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for port security MAC address limiting on Cisco switching platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-PORT-SECURITY-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-PORT-SECURITY-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module declaring which parts of CISCO-PORT-SECURITY-MIB a given Cisco switch's agent implementation supports. Port security is a Layer 2 switching feature that limits and tracks MAC addresses allowed on a switch port. As a capabilities module it defines no objects or notifications of its own, so it exposes no runtime hardware/software status data. It is entirely dependent on CISCO-PORT-SECURITY-MIB, the module whose support it documents. It is used by management systems and MIB compilers to determine, per device/software version, which port-security objects and traps are actually available. Engineers can download the CISCO-PORT-SECURITY-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-PORT-SECURITY-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no pollable objects of its own; it only declares which groups/variations of CISCO-PORT-SECURITY-MIB a specific switch agent implements, so it provides no direct monitoring scenario.
