Description: Huawei IS-IS MIB for managing IS-IS routing protocol instances, adjacencies, level-1/2 topology, and routing database on Huawei routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-ISIS-MIB?

HUAWEI-ISIS-MIB is a Huawei-proprietary MIB implemented on Huawei routers to manage the IS-IS (Intermediate System to Intermediate System) interior gateway routing protocol in a pure IP environment, covering Huawei-specific private extensions beyond the standard protocol objects. Its data spans configuration of IS-IS protocol instances and interfaces, and operational state including neighbor adjacency status, Level-1/Level-2 topology information, and the link-state routing database. As a core routing-protocol MIB it is essential for monitoring the software health of the routing control plane: whether IS-IS adjacencies with neighboring routers are up or flapping, whether the link-state database is synchronized, and whether routes are being computed and installed correctly, all of which directly affect network reachability. It is explicitly a private/vendor extension layered on the standard IS-IS protocol and complements (rather than replaces) any standard ISIS-MIB objects a device may also support. It is typically deployed on Huawei NE/CE/AR-series routers in service-provider or enterprise core and backbone networks running IS-IS as their IGP. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HUAWEI-ISIS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-ISIS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei routers (NE/CE/AR-series) running IS-IS

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll IS-IS adjacency-state objects to confirm neighbor relationships on a given interface are in the "up" state, and would check Level-1/Level-2 database synchronization objects to verify the router has a consistent view of network topology. No sample object names were provided for this module, so specific table names cannot be cited, but the module description confirms adjacency and topology/database monitoring as the scope. A neighbor adjacency repeatedly transitioning down and back up (flapping) would indicate a link-quality or timer-mismatch problem needing investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IS-IS neighbor adjacency status
  • Level-1/Level-2 topology database state
  • routing instance configuration
  • link-state database synchronization

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hwIsisSysWrongSysTypes OID:

Select a Huawei router (NE/CE/AR-series) running IS-I as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hwIsisSysWrongSysTypes into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of Times Wrong System Types requested for Adjacencies. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
