Category: IP and Core Protocols, Vendor: Huawei
Description: Huawei IP MIB providing extended IPv4 management objects including routing, interface addressing, and IP statistics beyond standard RFC 2011.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HUAWEI-IP-MIB?
HUAWEI-IP-MIB is a Huawei MIB that extends IPv4 management on Huawei routers and switches beyond what the standard RFC 2011 IP-MIB provides, adding detailed IP-layer error counters, routing statistics, and interface addressing objects. It exposes objects covering malformed-packet counters (too-short/too-small datagrams, bad version, bad checksum, bad length, bad header length, bad options), fragmentation drop counts, raw output counts, and routing-table statistics such as bad redirects and dynamic route counts. This module is a strong performance/fault-monitoring MIB at the IP layer: administrators can watch counters like ipBadChecksums, ipFragDroppeds, and ipRouteBadRedirects climbing to detect malformed traffic, a misconfigured MTU causing fragmentation drops, or route-redirect issues on the network. It explicitly extends the IETF standard IP-MIB (RFC 2011), reusing its conceptual structure (the rIp branch) while adding Huawei-private counters not present in the standard. It is deployed on Huawei routers and Layer 3 switches wherever detailed IP-layer diagnostics are needed beyond basic standard MIB counters. Engineers can download the HUAWEI-IP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-IP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Huawei routers
- Huawei Layer 3 switches
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll ipBadChecksums and ipBadHeadLens over time on a router's IP-MIB extension to detect a rising trend, which typically indicates a faulty upstream device or a link introducing corruption before checksums are validated. Watching ipFragDroppeds climb on a WAN-facing interface would reveal an MTU mismatch causing legitimate fragmented packets to be silently discarded. A spike in ipRouteBadRedirects could indicate a misbehaving or spoofed ICMP redirect source attempting to manipulate the routing table, while ipRouteDynamics tracks how many routes are being learned dynamically versus statically configured.
What Can Be Monitored
- malformed IP packet counters (bad checksum, bad length, bad version)
- IP fragmentation drop count
- raw IP output count
- bad ICMP redirect count
- dynamic route count
