All MIBs › HPNSATRAP-MIB

Category: Alarm and Event Management, Domain: Server Hardware, Vendor: HP/HPE

Description: Defines SNMP trap notifications for HP NetServer Agent hardware alerts and fault events on HP ProLiant servers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPNSATRAP-MIB?

HPNSATRAP-MIB is part of the legacy HP NetServer Agent suite and defines the SNMP trap notifications for hardware alert and fault events on HP ProLiant/NetServer servers, with a clear focus on SCSI/RAID storage subsystems. Its sample objects reference SCSI adapter, logical drive, channel, and target IDs along with SCSI sense-key/ASC/ASCQ error codes, indicating the traps report detailed storage controller and drive fault diagnostics. Its monitoring purpose is hardware status and fault detection: capturing logical drive state transitions (rtOldDriveState to rtNewDriveState) and detailed SCSI error codes so operators can pinpoint exactly which adapter, channel, and drive experienced a failure and why. It depends on/complements sibling HP NetServer Agent MIBs such as HPNSAASR-MIB (array redundancy) and HPNSATAT-MIB (drive self-test), which expose the underlying polled data that these traps report on. It would have been deployed on legacy HP NetServer/ProLiant servers to alert administrators in real time to RAID controller and drive faults.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPNSATRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP NetServer/ProLiant servers with SCSI/RAID controllers

Monitoring Examples

An NMS receiving a trap from this MIB would read rtAdapterNumber, rtChannelNumber, and rtTargetID together to identify exactly which physical drive triggered the alert, then check rtOldDriveState versus rtNewDriveState to see the drive transitioned, for example, from online to failed. The rtSenseKey, rtASC, and rtASCQ fields provide the underlying SCSI error code detail (and rtDriveVendor identifies the manufacturer), letting a storage admin distinguish a transient bus error from a genuine drive failure without manually querying the RAID controller, and administrators supporting this legacy platform can download the HPNSATRAP-MIB file directly to load it into a MIB browser.

What Can Be Monitored

  • logical drive state changes
  • SCSI adapter/channel/target identification
  • SCSI sense key and ASC/ASCQ error codes
  • drive vendor identification
