Description: Manages the Multicast In-Network Management (MINM) protocol for multicast tree management on HP/Comware devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HPN-ICF-MINM-MIB?
HPN-ICF-MINM-MIB is an HP Networking (Comware/H3C) vendor MIB implementing management for 802.1ah MAC-in-MAC (Provider Backbone Bridging) style multicast in-network management, tracking backbone MAC addressing, virtual switch instances (VSI), uplinks, and connections used to tunnel customer traffic across a provider backbone. It exposes the device's own backbone MAC address and capabilities, a VSI table describing each virtual switching instance's backbone VLAN and encapsulation settings, an uplink table for the ports carrying encapsulated traffic toward the backbone, and a connection table tracking active MAC-in-MAC connections. For hardware/software status monitoring, the uplink and connection tables' row status let an operator confirm that backbone tunnels are correctly established and active, revealing a failed or misconfigured provider-backbone connection that would isolate a customer's virtual switch instance from the rest of the network. It is built on 802.1ah Provider Backbone Bridging concepts and is a self-contained vendor MIB rather than a direct extension of a widely-deployed IETF MIB. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware provider-edge or backbone switches implementing MAC-in-MAC encapsulation for carrier-grade Ethernet services. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-MINM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-MINM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/H3C Comware provider-backbone switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll hpnicfMinmVsiTable (via hpnicfMinmVsiBvlan and hpnicfMinmVsiReEncapsulation) to confirm each virtual switch instance's backbone VLAN and encapsulation mode are set as expected, and check hpnicfMinmUplinkTable/hpnicfMinmUplinkRowStatus to verify the uplink carrying that VSI's traffic toward the backbone is active. The hpnicfMinmConnectionTable would be inspected to confirm an active MAC-in-MAC connection exists for a given customer service, with a missing or non-active entry indicating the backbone tunnel for that VSI has failed to establish. hpnicfMinmBmac identifies the device's own backbone MAC address used in these encapsulated frames.
What Can Be Monitored
- backbone MAC address
- VSI backbone VLAN and encapsulation setting
- uplink row status
- MAC-in-MAC connection state
- device MAC-in-MAC capabilities
