What Is LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NSM-MIB?

This is the HP StorageWorks LeftHand Networks base MIB, providing the top-level product registration and enterprise OID structure for HP's P4000 Network Storage Module (NSM) SAN storage systems. Network engineers often load LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NSM-MIB into a MIB Browser first to inspect the registered enterprise OID tree before drilling into the companion status MIBs. It does not itself expose operational data; instead, it establishes the enterprise object identifier tree under which the related status and notification MIBs (such as the NSM Status and NUS notification MIBs) register their objects. Its monitoring relevance is structural -- it enables NMS platforms to correctly identify and namespace P4000 storage devices and their sub-MIBs for hardware/software health polling. It is a foundational dependency for the LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NSM-STATUS-MIB and related LeftHand/NUS MIBs. It is deployed wherever HP P4000/LeftHand SAN storage clusters are present in a data center.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NSM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • product/model identification OIDs
  • enterprise MIB tree registration (no direct operational counters)

Supported Devices

  • HP StorageWorks P4000 / LeftHand Networks NSM storage systems

Monitoring Examples

When an NMS discovers a P4000 storage node via SNMP, it uses the product registration OIDs defined in LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NSM-MIB to identify the specific storage node model before drilling into the status MIB for actual health data. Since this module contains no operational objects itself, all real monitoring (status, notifications) is delegated to its companion MIBs that register under this base tree. Its role is purely to anchor product identity for correct MIB-tree navigation in storage management tools.
