Description: Manages Virtual Switch Instance (VSI) service instances for VPLS L2VPN on HP/Comware MPLS PE devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HPN-ICF-VSI-MIB?
HPN-ICF-VSI-MIB is an HP/H3C Comware enterprise MIB for managing Virtual Switch Instances (VSIs), the per-service constructs used to implement VPLS-style Layer 2 VPNs on MPLS provider-edge (PE) devices. It exposes configuration data describing each VSI's identity, forwarding mode, and administrative state, along with related Layer 2 VPN service status. Its monitoring value lies primarily in software/service status rather than physical hardware: operators use it to confirm whether a given VSI is administratively up (hpnicfVsiAdminState), which forwarding mode and hub-spoke topology it uses, and whether the overall L2VPN service is operational. It builds on and depends on MPLS L2VPN/VPLS concepts and typically coexists with standard MPLS and VPLS MIBs on the same PE device. It is deployed in service-provider or large-enterprise MPLS networks where HP/H3C Comware PE routers deliver VPLS-based L2VPN services to multiple customers. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-VSI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-VSI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/H3C Comware MPLS PE routers/switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll hpnicfVsiTable (hpnicfVsiEntry) indexed by hpnicfVsiIndex to enumerate configured VSIs, checking hpnicfVsiName, hpnicfVsiMode, hpnicfVsiId, and hpnicfVsiAdminState to confirm a customer's L2VPN instance is provisioned and administratively enabled. Reading hpnicfVsiL2vpnStatus alongside hpnicfVsiEnableHubSpoke and hpnicfVsiTransMode reveals whether hub-and-spoke topology is active and which transport mode is in use, helping diagnose why a VPLS site might be unreachable. hpnicfVsiNextAvailableVsiIndex is typically read before provisioning a new VSI to avoid index collisions.
What Can Be Monitored
- VSI administrative state
- VSI name/identity
- VSI mode and transport mode
- L2VPN service status
- hub-spoke topology enablement
- next available VSI index
