Description: H3C MIB for traffic storm control configuration limiting broadcast, multicast, and unknown unicast flooding rates.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-STORM-CONSTRAIN-MIB?

H3C-STORM-CONSTRAIN-MIB manages H3C's Storm-Constrain feature, which protects switch ports from broadcast, multicast, and unknown-unicast traffic storms by monitoring traffic rates and automatically blocking a port's forwarding when a configured upper threshold is exceeded, restoring it once traffic falls below a lower threshold. It exposes per-port configuration for each traffic type's measurement unit and upper/lower thresholds, the port's current controlled/normal status, and trap configuration for threshold-exceeded events. This MIB is fundamentally about detecting and responding to abnormal traffic conditions at the port level — administrators use it to see which ports have been automatically shut down (controlled-status) due to a storm, and to tune thresholds so legitimate bursty traffic isn't mistaken for an attack or loop-induced storm. It operates on top of the standard interface/bridge port model (IF-MIB-style ifIndex) since storm control is applied per physical port. It is deployed on H3C access and aggregation switches to protect against broadcast storms typically caused by Layer 2 loops or malicious flooding. Engineers can download the H3C-STORM-CONSTRAIN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-STORM-CONSTRAIN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C access and aggregation switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would walk h3cStormCtrlTable (h3cStormCtrlEntry) to check h3cStormCtrlPortStatus on each port, quickly identifying any port that has entered a controlled (blocked) state due to a storm. Threshold objects like h3cStormCtrlBroadcastUpper, h3cStormCtrlBroadcastLower, and h3cStormCtrlBroadcastUnit (similarly for multicast and unicast) would be reviewed to confirm the configured limits are appropriate for the port's expected traffic profile. h3cStormTrapType and h3cStormTrapThreshold configure which storm events generate notifications via h3cStormNotifications, letting an operator be paged immediately when a port is auto-disabled due to a Layer 2 loop or flood.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port storm control status (controlled/normal)
  • broadcast/multicast/unicast rate thresholds
  • storm trap configuration
  • port auto-block due to traffic storm
