Description: Manages IGMP and MLD snooping for multicast group filtering on HP/Comware Layer 2 switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-MULTICAST-SNOOPING-MIB?

HPN-ICF-MULTICAST-SNOOPING-MIB is an HPE/H3C Comware ICF private MIB that manages IGMP and MLD snooping for controlling IPv4/IPv6 multicast group traffic on Layer 2 switches. It exposes a global configuration table (hpnicfMcsGlobalConfigTable/Entry) with snooping type (hpnicfMcsGlbSnoopingType), host/router aging timers (HostAgingTime, RouterAgingTime), maximum response and last-member-query intervals, an entry limit, and a flag for dropping unknown multicast traffic (hpnicfMcsGlbDropUnknownEnabled), plus a virtual-unit-specific config table for stacked switches. Its monitoring focus is on multicast forwarding software behavior: confirming snooping is enabled with sensible aging/timer values and that the entry limit isn't exhausted, which would otherwise cause multicast group state to be dropped and streams to stop reaching subscribed ports. It complements the standard IETF IGMP/MLD protocols (RFC 3376, RFC 3810) with switch-local snooping state, including stacked configurations. It is deployed on HPE/H3C Comware Layer 2/3 switches carrying IPTV or other multicast application traffic. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-MULTICAST-SNOOPING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-MULTICAST-SNOOPING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HPE/H3C Comware Layer 2/3 switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator checks hpnicfMcsGlbSnoopingType and hpnicfMcsGlbEntryLimit in hpnicfMcsGlobalConfigTable to confirm IGMP/MLD snooping is enabled with adequate capacity for active multicast groups, and reviews hpnicfMcsGlbHostAgingTime/RouterAgingTime to ensure stale entries age out promptly. If hpnicfMcsGlbDropUnknownEnabled is set but legitimate multicast streams stop reaching new subscribers, the entry limit may have been reached, silently dropping additional group registrations; hpnicfMcsVirtualUnitConfigTable would additionally be checked on a switch stack to confirm consistent settings across member units.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IGMP/MLD snooping enable type
  • host/router aging timers
  • multicast entry table capacity/limit
  • unknown-multicast drop setting
  • per-virtual-unit snooping configuration (stacks)
