Last Updated: 2008-06-06
Category: Vendor: H3C/HH3C
Description: Manages storm control (broadcast, multicast, and unknown unicast suppression) on H3C/3Com switch ports with configurable rate thresholds and notification traps.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-STORM-CONSTRAIN-MIB?
A3COM-HUAWEI-STORM-CONSTRAIN-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Huawei-3Com (H3C) that manages storm control on switch ports, suppressing excessive broadcast, multicast, and unknown-unicast traffic before it can flood the network. It exposes per-port configuration through the h3cStormCtrlTable (indexed by ifIndex), including h3cStormCtrlBroadcastUpper/Lower, h3cStormCtrlMulticastUpper/Lower, and h3cStormCtrlUnicastUpper/Lower thresholds along with their H3cStormConstrainUnit (packets/sec, ratio, bytes/sec, kbits/sec), plus h3cStormCtrlPortStatus reporting whether a port is currently controlled or normal and h3cStormCtrlPortMode defining the enforcement action (none, block, shutdown). It depends on ifIndex from RFC1213-MIB and RowStatus from SNMPv2-TC for row lifecycle management, and it fires h3cStormRising and h3cStormFalling notifications when a monitored flux crosses its configured threshold. It is deployed on H3C/3Com/Huawei enterprise LAN switches to protect uplinks and access ports from broadcast storms, and administrators can download the A3COM-HUAWEI-STORM-CONSTRAIN-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser when auditing storm-control policy across a switch fleet.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-HUAWEI-STORM-CONSTRAIN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C (Huawei-3Com) enterprise LAN switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls h3cStormCtrlTable to check h3cStormCtrlPortStatus for a trunk port and compares h3cStormCtrlBroadcastUpper against observed traffic; an h3cStormRising trap combined with h3cStormCtrlPortStatus showing controlled(1) would indicate the port has entered storm-control shutdown or blocking and is dropping excess broadcast/multicast/unicast traffic.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port storm-control status
- broadcast/multicast/unicast threshold configuration
- storm-control enforcement mode (block/shutdown)
- storm rising/falling trap notifications
- row status of storm-control entries
