Category: Technology: Multicast, Vendor: H3C/HH3C, Vendor: HP/HPE

Description: Manages multicast data replication (MCDR) for multicast traffic copying across interfaces on HP/Comware devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-MCDR-MIB?

HPN-ICF-MCDR-MIB is part of HP Networking's ICF (Intelligent Configuration Framework) MIB family for Comware-based switches and routers, covering Multicast Data Replication (MCDR), the mechanism by which a device duplicates multicast traffic streams across interfaces or to a monitoring collector. It exposes configuration objects controlling whether MCDR is enabled (hpnicfMultCDRStatus), how often usage records are reported (hpnicfMultCDRReportInterval), cache size limits, and record send/delay behavior, along with a live table of currently active multicast subscribers. Its most operationally significant feature is the hpnicfMultUserOnlineInfoTable, which reports per-user/per-interface multicast group membership in near real time, letting an administrator monitor the software-level status of active multicast sessions (join state, VLAN, and interface) rather than physical hardware health. As an HP ICF-family MIB it follows the same enterprise structural conventions as other hpnicf modules and is typically layered on top of standard IGMP/multicast MIBs for full context. It is deployed in IPTV, video distribution, or other multicast-heavy environments running HP/H3C Comware switches. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-MCDR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-MCDR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP Comware switches/routers
  • H3C network switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll hpnicfMultUserOnlineInfoTable (via hpnicfMultUserOnlineInfoEntry rows) to see which subscribers, identified by hpnicfMultUserRecordID, hpnicfMultUserSubIfIndex, and hpnicfMultUserVlanID, are currently joined to a multicast group via hpnicfMultUserJoinGAddr. A sudden drop in table entries for a VLAN could indicate a failed multicast join or an upstream feed outage, while checking hpnicfMultCDRCacheLimit against current table size helps confirm the CDR cache isn't being exhausted and dropping records.

What Can Be Monitored

  • multicast data replication status
  • cache limit and usage
  • report interval configuration
  • active multicast user sessions
  • per-user VLAN and interface join state
  • record send/delay behavior
