Description: Manages IPv4 address assignments, secondary addresses, and unnumbered interface configuration on HP/Comware devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-IP-ADDRESS-MIB?

HPN-ICF-IP-ADDRESS-MIB is an HP Networking/H3C Comware (ICF) private MIB for managing IPv4 address assignment on switches and routers, including secondary addresses and unnumbered interfaces, with a focus on notifying address changes. It exposes notification objects that report when an interface's IP address changes, including the interface index and both the old and new IP addresses along with the time of the first such change. This is a configuration-change and fault-visibility MIB rather than a hardware-health one: it lets an administrator detect unexpected or unauthorized IP address changes on interfaces, which is valuable for catching misconfiguration or address-conflict resolution events. It relies on the standard ifIndex convention from IF-MIB to identify the affected interface, tying it to the broader IETF interfaces framework. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware-based switches and routers in enterprise networks where IP address stability on core/uplink interfaces is operationally important. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-IP-ADDRESS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-IP-ADDRESS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP Networking / H3C Comware switch
  • HP Networking / H3C Comware router

Monitoring Examples

An NMS would subscribe to hpnicfIpAddrNotify traps and inspect hpnicfIpAddrNotifyIfIndex together with hpnicfIpAddrOldIpAddress and hpnicfIpAddrNewIpAddress to identify exactly which interface changed address and what the change was, useful for detecting a DHCP renewal gone wrong or an unauthorized reconfiguration. hpnicfIpAddrFirstTrapTime lets the NMS determine whether this is a newly recurring flapping condition versus a one-off planned change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • interface IP address change events
  • old IP address before change
  • new IP address after change
  • affected interface index
  • first-occurrence timestamp of address change
