Category: Hardware and Environment, Vendor: H3C/HH3C, Vendor: HP/HPE

Description: Extends the standard ENTITY-MIB with HP/Comware-specific physical entity attributes such as CPU and memory utilization.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-ENTITY-EXT-MIB?

HPN-ICF-ENTITY-EXT-MIB is an HP/H3C Comware ICF vendor extension to the standard ENTITY-MIB, adding richer physical-entity state that the base entPhysicalTable does not cover. It defines hpnicfEntityExtStateTable for administrative/operational/standby state per entity (using X.731-style textual conventions HpnicfAdminState, HpnicfOperState, HpnicfAlarmStatus, HpnicfStandbyStatus), hpnicfEntityExtManuTable for extended manufacturing/hardware identification, hpnicfEntityExtPowerTable for power-supply status, and hpnicfProcessTable for CPU/process-level information, alongside a set of entity-related notifications under hpnicfEntityExtTraps. This gives a more granular, ITU X.731-aligned view of chassis component health -- locked/unlocked administrative state, enabled/disabled/dangerous operational state, and active alarm severities -- than the base ENTITY-MIB provides. It depends on ENTITY-MIB for the entPhysicalIndex values it extends. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware switches and routers alongside the standard entity MIB, and engineers use the HPN-ICF-ENTITY-EXT-MIB MIB Browser view to correlate this extended entity state with chassis inventory.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-ENTITY-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware switches and routers (chassis-based platforms)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls hpnicfEntityExtStateTable for a power supply's HpnicfAlarmStatus bits and its HpnicfStandbyStatus; an entity reporting a critical or major alarm combined with a standby status stuck at coldStandby (rather than hotStandby) would indicate a failed component whose backup is not yet ready to take over.

What Can Be Monitored

  • entity administrative/operational state per physical component
  • entity alarm status bitmask (critical/major/minor/warning)
  • entity standby/redundancy status
  • extended manufacturing/hardware identification
  • power supply status table
  • CPU/process table entries
