Description: H3C MIB for In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) managing hitless software upgrades on H3C network devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-ISSU-MIB?

This H3C vendor MIB manages In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU), a feature allowing software/firmware images on modules within an H3C chassis to be upgraded with minimal or no service disruption. It exposes an image table for specifying target upgrade image names/URLs per module and image type, along with operation type, status, and failure-reason objects reflecting the outcome of an upgrade or test operation. Its monitoring value is explicitly focused on software status, tracking whether an ISSU upgrade operation is in progress, succeeded, or failed, capturing the failure reason and completion time, which directly reflects the software version and upgrade health of the device's line cards or modules. It is specific to H3C's modular chassis architecture and likely interacts with underlying entity/module MIBs to identify which physical module an image applies to. It is deployed on H3C modular switches/routers where administrators perform hitless software upgrades across multiple line cards or supervisor modules. Engineers can download the H3C-ISSU-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-ISSU-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C modular switches and routers supporting In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would populate h3cIssuUpgradeImageTable/h3cIssuUpgradeImageEntry with h3cIssuUpgradeImageURL and h3cIssuUpgradeImageType to stage a new firmware image for a specific module, then trigger the operation via h3cIssuOpType. Polling h3cIssuOpStatus and h3cIssuOpTimeCompleted would confirm whether the upgrade finished successfully and when, while h3cIssuFailedReason would explain why an upgrade aborted, such as an image compatibility mismatch. Enabling h3cIssuOpTrapEnable ensures the management station is notified via trap as soon as the upgrade operation concludes.

What Can Be Monitored

  • upgrade image assignment per module
  • upgrade operation status
  • upgrade failure reason
  • upgrade completion time
  • software version staged for upgrade
