Description: Manages Digital Signal Processor (DSP) resources and voice channel capacity on H3C voice gateway modules.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-DSP-MIB?

HH3C-DSP-MIB is a vendor-specific H3C MIB for managing Digital Signal Processor (DSP) resources and the VPM (Voice Processing Module) hardware that hosts them on H3C voice gateway modules, tracking voice-channel capacity used for call processing. It exposes VPM state and resource-utilization metrics, high-water utilization marks, maximum channel capacity, and a per-DSP status table linking individual DSPs back to their parent VPM. This MIB is explicitly used to monitor hardware resource status, specifically how heavily the DSP/VPM voice-processing hardware is loaded relative to its maximum channel capacity, which directly predicts when new calls will be rejected due to exhausted transcoding/voice resources. It is a private H3C MIB, part of the same voice-gateway family as H3C-MS-MAN-MIB, with no stated dependency on IETF voice MIBs. It is typically deployed on H3C voice gateways and integrated access devices handling PSTN/VoIP call processing in unified-communications deployments. Engineers can download the HH3C-DSP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-DSP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C voice gateways
  • H3C integrated access devices

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll hh3cVPMStatusTable/hh3cVPMStatusEntry, indexed by hh3cVPMIndex, to check hh3cVPMState and hh3cVPMResourceUtilization against hh3cVPMMaxChannel, revealing what fraction of voice-channel capacity is currently in use on a given voice processing module. The hh3cVPMHiWaterUtilization object records the peak utilization seen, useful for capacity-planning during busy-hour analysis. The hh3cDSPStatusTable/hh3cDSPStatusEntry, linked via hh3cDSPVPMIndex back to its parent VPM, lets an operator drill down to individual DSP chip health when a VPM shows degraded state. A VPM utilization consistently near hh3cVPMMaxChannel would predict imminent call-setup failures due to exhausted voice-processing resources.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VPM/DSP operational state
  • voice channel resource utilization
  • high-water utilization mark
  • maximum channel capacity

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hh3cVPMState OID:

Select an H3C voice gateway or access device as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hh3cVPMState into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The current state of the VPM card being monitored — normal, warning, fatal, or off-line. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'normal', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
