Description: HP Networking ICF SNMP MIB for 802.11 wireless access point license management and capacity control on HP WLAN devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HPN-ICF-DOT11-LIC-MIB?
HPN-ICF-DOT11-LIC-MIB is an HPE/H3C Comware ICF private MIB for managing 802.11 wireless licensing on an Access Controller (AC) that centrally manages "Fit" access points in a wireless LAN deployment. It exposes the AC's license serial number and keys (hpnicfDot11LICSerialNumber, LicenseKey, ActivationKey), the default/current/maximum permitted AP counts (DefautAPNumPermit, CurrentAPNumPermit, MaxAPNumPermit), and a per-license table (hpnicfDot11LICApNumLicTable/Entry) tracking individual license entries and their AP allotment. Rather than hardware sensors, its monitoring role is software/licensing status: confirming how many APs are currently licensed versus the maximum allowed, and detecting when an AC approaches or exceeds its licensed AP capacity. This matters operationally because an AC at its license ceiling will refuse to bring additional access points online. It depends on the broader 802.11 WLAN management framework used by HPE/H3C Comware ACs and is deployed in centralized WLAN controller architectures with Fit APs. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-DOT11-LIC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-DOT11-LIC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HPE/H3C Comware WLAN Access Controllers
Monitoring Examples
A wireless administrator polls hpnicfDot11LICCurrentAPNumPermit against hpnicfDot11LICMaxAPNumPermit to see how close the controller is to its licensed AP capacity, and checks hpnicfDot11LICApNumLicTable to review individual license keys and their allotted AP counts. If CurrentAPNumPermit approaches MaxAPNumPermit, that signals the need to apply an additional hpnicfDot11LICLicenseKey before new APs can join. hpnicfDot11LICSerialNumber and hpnicfDot11LICActivationKey would also be checked to confirm the AC's license was activated correctly.
What Can Be Monitored
- current vs. maximum licensed AP count
- license key/serial number status
- per-license AP allotment
- license activation status
