Category: Network Monitoring (RMON), Vendor: H3C/HH3C
Description: H3C MIB for traffic mirroring group management configuring port or flow mirroring for network analysis.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is H3C-MIRRORGROUP-MIB?
H3C-MIRRORGROUP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from H3C Technologies (a networking vendor closely related to HP/HPE Comware-based products) that manages traffic mirroring groups on switches and routers. It exposes configuration data for mirror groups, including which source ports or flows are mirrored and which destination port receives the copied traffic for analysis by a sniffer or IDS. Rather than exposing hardware health counters, this MIB is used to monitor and confirm the software configuration state of mirroring features, such as whether a mirror group is correctly configured and active, so that network engineers can verify traffic-capture setups are functioning as intended. It is a private H3C extension and does not depend on standard IETF port-mirroring MIBs, instead defining its own object tree under the H3C enterprise branch. It is typically deployed on H3C/HPE Comware switches in enterprise or campus networks where administrators need to replicate traffic for network analyzers, IDS/IPS sensors, or troubleshooting tools. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the H3C-MIRRORGROUP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-MIRRORGROUP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C/HPE Comware switches
- H3C routers
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll the mirror group table entries to confirm that a configured mirroring group still maps the correct source port to its intended monitor/destination port, since a misconfiguration here would silently blind an attached IDS sensor. Because sample object names were not available in the source, monitoring in practice centers on group membership and status objects analogous to a mirrorGroupTable/mirrorGroupEntry with port-role and enable/disable state. An anomaly such as an unexpectedly disabled or empty mirror group would reveal that traffic capture for security monitoring has stopped working. This makes the MIB a configuration-verification tool rather than a performance or fault-reporting one.
What Can Be Monitored
- mirror group configuration
- mirrored source ports
- mirror destination port
- mirroring enable/disable state
