Description: H3C MIB for IP directed broadcast management controlling forwarding of subnet-directed broadcast packets.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is H3C-IP-BROADCAST-MIB?
H3C-IP-BROADCAST-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from H3C (Hewlett-Packard/New H3C's networking division, a Cisco-comparable enterprise switch/router vendor) for controlling IP directed-broadcast forwarding behavior, i.e. whether packets addressed to a subnet's broadcast address are relayed onto that subnet. Without captured sample objects, its scope per the module description is configuration of this broadcast-forwarding feature, which may vary by product line. Its monitoring relevance is centered on software configuration state -- confirming directed-broadcast forwarding is enabled or disabled as intended on a given interface, since misconfiguration here has both operational (smurf-attack amplification) and security implications. It is a small, self-contained feature MIB likely layered on top of H3C's IP interface configuration framework rather than any IETF standard. It would be deployed on H3C (H3C/HP Comware) routers and switches in enterprise and carrier networks. Engineers can download the H3C-IP-BROADCAST-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-IP-BROADCAST-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C/HP Comware router or switch
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were captured for this MIB; based on the module description, an administrator would poll a per-interface object indicating whether IP directed-broadcast forwarding is enabled, to confirm the security posture of an interface and catch a device where the feature was inadvertently left on, which could allow it to participate in broadcast-based amplification traffic.
