Description: HP Networking ICF SNMP MIB for IEEE 802.1X Port Access Entity (PAE) authentication configuration on HPN network devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-8021PAE-MIB?

HPN-ICF-8021PAE-MIB extends the standard IEEE8021-PAE-MIB to add HP Networking (HPN, H3C Comware-based) proprietary objects for IEEE 802.1X Port Access Entity authentication, the protocol that controls whether a switch port allows traffic based on successful client authentication. It layers vendor-specific configuration and status data on top of the standard 802.1X authenticator/supplicant state machine objects, covering per-port authentication mode and enhanced authentication parameters not covered by the base IEEE MIB. Its monitoring role is to track the software/access-control status of switch ports — whether 802.1X is enabled, and the authentication state of connected endpoints — which is essential for detecting unauthorized devices or ports stuck in an unauthenticated/blocked state. It has an explicit dependency on the standard IEEE8021-PAE-MIB, which it extends rather than replaces. It is deployed on HP Networking (H3C Comware-based) switches in enterprise LANs enforcing 802.1X network access control. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-8021PAE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-8021PAE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP Networking / H3C Comware-based switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin troubleshooting a user unable to get network access would check the HPN 802.1X PAE port authentication state alongside the standard PAE authenticator state-machine objects to see if the port is stuck in an unauthenticated or held state, indicating a RADIUS or supplicant credential failure rather than a physical link issue.

What Can Be Monitored

  • 802.1X port authentication status
  • per-port PAE authenticator state
  • vendor-specific 802.1X configuration extensions
