Description: Hirschmann HiOS (HM2) PoE MIB for Power over Ethernet port power management and budget configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HM2-POE-MIB?

HM2-POE-MIB is a Hirschmann HiOS proprietary MIB providing Power over Ethernet (PoE) management, extending the standard PoE MIB (RFC 3621) with vendor-specific power-supply and per-port power objects. It exposes overall PoE admin status and reserved power budget, a power-supply-unit table showing rated, reserved, and delivered power, and a per-port table with admin enable state, consumption, and detection status. Its central use is monitoring PoE hardware health and power budget: administrators track whether the PSU is delivering power within its rated capacity and whether individual ports (powering IP phones, cameras, or access points) are drawing expected power or failing detection. It explicitly builds on RFC 3621 (POWER-ETHERNET-MIB) as its base standard, adding Hirschmann-specific PSU and port detail. It is deployed on Hirschmann industrial PoE switches powering field devices such as IP cameras, wireless access points, or PoE-powered sensors in industrial settings. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HM2-POE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HM2-POE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hirschmann HiOS industrial PoE Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls hm2PoeMgmtPsuTable (hm2PoeMgmtPsuEntry) to compare hm2PoeMgmtPsuPower (rated capacity) against hm2PoeMgmtPsuReservedPower and hm2PoeMgmtPsuDeliveredPower, checking whether the power supply is approaching its budget limit. Per-port, hm2PoeMgmtPortTable exposes hm2PoeMgmtPortAdminEnable, hm2PoeMgmtPortConsumptionPower, and hm2PoeMgmtPortDetectionStatus, letting an admin spot a port where a connected camera fails detection or draws unexpectedly high power. If hm2PoeMgmtPsuDeliveredPower nears hm2PoeMgmtPsuPower's ceiling, the admin knows new PoE devices cannot be added without upgrading the supply, and the hm2PoeMgmtMibNotifications group would alert on power-budget or detection-fault events.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PoE admin status
  • reserved vs delivered power budget
  • per-PSU power capacity
  • per-port power consumption
  • per-port detection status
