Category: Domain: Subscriber Management, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: HH3C MIB for session table management monitoring active user and network sessions on H3C devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-SESSION-MIB?

HH3C-SESSION-MIB is an H3C (Hangzhou Huawei-3Com, now New H3C) proprietary MIB for monitoring the session table on firewalls, routers, and multi-service switches performing stateful session tracking such as NAT or firewall sessions. It exposes per-chassis, per-slot, and per-CPU session statistics, including current session counts and session creation rate. This is primarily a performance/load monitoring MIB: it lets an administrator gauge how heavily loaded a device's session table and CPU are, critical for detecting resource exhaustion, denial-of-service conditions, or capacity limits being approached on hardware handling many concurrent connections. As a private enterprise MIB it has no dependency on IETF standards, though it parallels the general concept of session/state tables in firewall and NAT MIBs from other vendors. It is deployed on H3C routers, firewalls, and security gateways where session-table capacity and CPU load from session processing need close operational monitoring. Engineers can download the HH3C-SESSION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-SESSION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C routers
  • H3C firewalls/security gateways

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll hh3cSessionStatTable/hh3cSessionStatEntry, indexed by hh3cSessionStatChassis, hh3cSessionStatSlot, and hh3cSessionStatCPUID, to read hh3cSessionStatCount and hh3cSessionStatCreateRate per processing unit. A sustained high hh3cSessionStatCount approaching the device's rated session table capacity, combined with a spike in hh3cSessionStatCreateRate, would indicate either a legitimate traffic surge or a SYN-flood-style attack overwhelming the device's session table. Comparing counts across slots/CPUs also helps identify load imbalance in a multi-slot chassis.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active session count per chassis/slot/CPU
  • session creation rate
  • session table load distribution
