Category: Technology: Loop Detection, Technology: Switching/L2, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Manages loopback detection on H3C switch ports to identify and disable ports causing Layer 2 loops.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-LPBKDT-MIB?

HH3C-LPBKDT-MIB implements loopback detection on H3C switches, a feature that identifies Layer 2 loops on access ports (often caused by misconfigured cabling) and shuts them down to prevent broadcast storms. It exposes per-VLAN loopback-detection configuration and a notification framework signaling when a loop is detected on a port. Its monitoring value is fault-oriented: receiving traps when a port is identified as looped and consequently blocked, flagging a network-integrity fault rather than a raw performance metric. It works in conjunction with standard bridge/spanning-tree concepts (IEEE 802.1D) even though loopback detection itself is a proprietary H3C mechanism. It is deployed on H3C access-layer switches in enterprise LANs to catch accidental physical loops before they cause broadcast storms. Engineers can download the HH3C-LPBKDT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-LPBKDT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C access-layer switches

Monitoring Examples

hh3cLpbkdtVlanID identifies which VLAN loopback detection is monitoring, and hh3cLpbkdtNotifications/hh3cLpbkdtObjects define the trap sent (prefixed by hh3cLpbkdtTrapPrefix) when a loop is detected on a port. An admin receiving one of these traps would immediately check the flagged port for a bad cable or unintended switch-to-switch loopback connection causing broadcast storm risk.

What Can Be Monitored

  • loopback detection status per VLAN
  • loop-detected trap events
