Description: Manages In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) state, compatibility checks, and upgrade progression on H3C platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-ISSU-MIB?

HH3C-ISSU-MIB is an H3C enterprise MIB that manages In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) operations, allowing software images to be upgraded on individual modules of a chassis without a full system outage. It exposes objects for staging new images per module/image-type, triggering upgrade or test operations, and reporting the resulting status. This is squarely a software-status monitoring MIB: it reports upgrade operation status, failure reasons, and completion time, letting an operator confirm whether an ISSU upgrade succeeded, is in progress, or failed on a given module. It is vendor-specific to H3C's modular/chassis platforms and works alongside standard entity-style module indexing concepts even though it doesn't directly extend a standard MIB. It is typically deployed on H3C modular routers and switches performing rolling software upgrades to avoid downtime during maintenance windows. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HH3C-ISSU-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-ISSU-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C modular router
  • H3C modular/chassis switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would first populate hh3cIssuUpgradeImageTable (indexed by hh3cIssuUpgradeImageIndex) with the target hh3cIssuUpgradeImageURL for a given hh3cIssuUpgradeImageType, then trigger hh3cIssuOp and poll hh3cIssuOpStatus. If the upgrade fails, hh3cIssuFailedReason explains why (e.g., incompatible image or checksum failure), while hh3cIssuOpTimeCompleted confirms when the operation finished successfully. Enabling hh3cIssuOpTrapEnable lets the operator get an asynchronous notification instead of polling, which is valuable during unattended maintenance windows.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ISSU upgrade image assignment per module
  • upgrade operation status
  • upgrade failure reason
  • upgrade completion time
  • software image type and URL
